Current Position
Full Professor of Psychiatry and Chair of the Clinical Division of General Psychiatry, Medical University of Vienna, Austria.
Over the last decades Dan Rujescu gained extensive experience in the diagnoses and treatment of the whole spectrum of psychiatric diseases and psychological problems.
He received his medical degree from the Universities of Heidelberg and Essen. From 1993-1995 he worked as a physician at the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Mainz. Afterwards, he moved to the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Munich where he became Head of the Division of Molecular and Clinical Neurobiology, worked as senior physician, medical specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy, served as full Professor for Psychiatry, Head of the Alzheimer Memorial Center, as well as Deputy Head of the Department. From 2012 till 2021 he was Chair of the Department of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics of the University of Halle, Germany.
He refers a substantial list of publications, comprising of more than 500 (e.g., in Nature, Nature Genetics, New England Journal of Medicine) listed in PubMed. His work has been extensively cited (62392 citations according to Google Scholar, h-index: 111), and he is a member of the „Highly cited researchers" 2018 worldwide (Clarivate Analytics) irrespective of research discipline.
He has top-class national and in particular international collaborations and to date has been able to raise almost € 10 million in third-party funds, including eight European Union-funded projects and two projects of the National Institutes of Health (USA).
Dan Rujescu is an active member of numerous national and international scientific societies where he holds a variety of positions. He serves as Chief-Editor of the "World Journal of Biological Psychiatry".
