Medical career
Medical studies under the minimum study period
I am a specialist in surgery, visceral surgery and vascular surgery. From 1991 and 1997 I completed my medical studies at the University of Vienna in 11 semesters.
Specialist training in general surgery, visceral surgery and vascular surgery:
In December 1997 I started my specialist training with the completion of counter subjects at the Heeresspital and the AKH Vienna. From September 1998 to October 1999, I worked at the Transplantation Department of the University Hospital of Surgery as transplant coordinator, followed by further specialist training at the Departments of General Surgery, Transplantation Surgery and Pediatric Surgery.
In 2005 I deepened my knowledge in the field of abdominal surgery and thyroid surgery at the Department of Surgery of the Rudolfsstiftung Hospital. In May 2005 I successfully passed the specialist examination for surgery. A few years later the additional subjects visceral surgery and vascular surgery followed.
Research and development of new surgical techniques in the USA:
From March 2007 to August 2008, a research stay at the University of Missouri - Columbia followed, where I conducted numerous research projects in the field of minimally invasive surgery and endoscopic surgery and developed new surgical techniques (NOTES - Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery).
Habilitation at the age of 35:
Less than one year after my return to the University Hospital in Vienna, I completed my habilitation and was awarded the Venia docendi at the age of 35.
In 2010, I was appointed senior physician at the University Hospital for Surgery, and a little later I was awarded the Additive Subject for Visceral Surgery.
Appointment as Associate Professor:
After meeting strict qualification criteria (science, research and teaching) I was finally appointed Associate Professor in April 2012.
From 2012-2014 I participated in the MBA Healthcare Management Program at the WU Executive Academy.
In April 2018 I left the University Hospital to dedicate myself exclusively to my private patients.
I am the author of numerous original scientific papers (32 original papers, 8 top and 2 standard authorships, 109.7 impact points) and a speaker at major national and international congresses. I am a member of national and international surgical societies and reviewer of several scientific journals, including the Annals of Surgery, the highest-ranked surgical journal.
